Hi all!

The abandoned French version of Britain's Queen Elizabeth class: The Richelieu

Image

Of course, much of the detailing is conjectural; whereever different source pictures differed, I went with the depiction in Weyer's 2008/10.

Cheers

Wow, this is an incredible drawing. I need to poke around and see if I have any deeper thoughts, but that's my initial reaction. Wow.

Beautifully executed drawing.

I'm curious to know what the secondary glass structure is on the forward island?

Also curious about French approaches to bridge/flyco glazing design with the thick framing between multiple panes of glass and a taper towards the top. Same on the Mistrals too.

Hi all

@TallBox:

1. Me, too. It also featured on early drafts of the BRAVE replenishment tanker, so it can't have to do with air Defence; if there's any explanation, it's probably in French, and my command of French is evidently too rudimentary to find it.

2. The very large glazed areas is what source pics show. The choice of 3-px framing was aesthetical on my part. I tried 1px black lines, which looked ridiculous, especially aft. Of course, the actual frames would be thinner, but at that scale, that's all that can be done.

And thanks to all for the praise!

Greetings
GD
