Pre Scriptum. Sorry for my English, I am not a native speaker.
So, some of my friends and I are working on the project called "Arezista" on other website (this is the fictional universe using the style and inspiration of the 1880-1950s).
Alternate universe requires ships. Our alternative univers requires lots of dreadnoughts, you know, those coal/oil-driven monsters with incredible firepower. So, this is one of them:
I used a SMS Schleswig-Holstein hull, than calculated it with a SpringSharp. Here are the params of this dreadnought:
Displacement: 26 864 t standard, 32 083 t full load
Armament: 4x2 280 mm/40 cal guns; 12 170 mm/40 cal guns; 16 150 mm/45 cal guns. Weight of broadside - 3,86 t.
Armour: 381 mm main belt, 305 mm ends, 254 mm upper, 203 mm torpedo bulkheads, 254 mm bulges. Turrets armor - 457-508 mm. Armour deck: multiple decks 35 mm. Conning towers - 305 mm.
Machinery: coal and oil fired boilers, complex reciprocating steam engines (38 535 ihp), direct drive, 4 shafts. Maximum speed - 21 kts. Range - 9000 nm at 12 kts. Bunker at max displacement - 5 219 tons (40% coal).
Ship can survive after 29 non-critical penetrations of 280 mm shell or being hit by 4 torpedoes (533 mm).
Metacentric height - 1,8 m.
Adequate machinery, storage, compartmentation space.
Excellent accommodation and workspace room.
Ship has slow, easy roll, a good, steady gun platform.
Good seaboat, rides out heavy weather easily.

Here comes another one battleship from our universe. I based it on Tillman battleship, then... Hmm... "Montanised" it and added my favourite mast cages to give it american-style appearance.
WUS Sunnyland (BB-75):
Displacement: 69 175 t standard, 82 582 t full load.
Overall length: 291 m
Armament: 3x5 406 mm 40 cal guns, 20 203 mm 30 cal guns, 16 152 mm 40 cal dual purpose guns. Weight of broadside - ~16 t.
Armour: main belt - 457 mm, ends - 356 mm, upper - 203 mm, 127 mm torpedo bulkhead and bulges. Main gun turrets armour - 381-457 mm. Conning towers - 305 mm.
Machinery: coal/oil fired boilers, steam turbines (275 000 ihp) - 32 kts. Range - 25 000 nm at 12 kts. Bunker - 13 500 t (40% coal).
To sink this monster, you'll need 64 penetrations by 406 mm shells or 22 533-mm torpedoes.
Metacentric height - 2,8 m.
Excellent machinery, storage, compartmentation space.

With the Windinger class, think undergunned, overarmoured and too big. A normal Queen Elizabeth class battleship of equivalent size has 15" guns and 13" armour. That would sink your ship 10 times out of 10 before your guns even came within range.
You have conflicting styles (against the real time line). the Arado 196 is an aircraft from the late 1930's with a radial engine, while your ship still has reciprocating engines from the 1890s-to-1910. Then you have the 5.9"AA gun designed by the WW1 Axis Navies for use mainly against airships. Where the Arado is should be full of ships boats of which your ship has none at present. You have 2 lots of secondary armament, both 5.9" and 6.7", you only need one.
The 11" are not big enough to damage ships of similar size or most smaller battleships either. Anything with 10" of armour would feel comfortable facing a ship with 11" guns. A ship with 8x14" guns, 12x5.9", 4x3.4"AA, 14" belt armour and 3.9" deck would be far superior to what you have now.

I thought to place a Fokker Dr.I-like aircraft, but I had some problems drawing it. Also I have great problems with drawing a boats, so my ships dont have them yet (also I will be very thankful if someone would help me to find parts sheet with these boats).Krakatoa wrote:You have conflicting styles (against the real time line).
I think, that style conflict is not really a problem for a fictional universe.
