HMCS Annapolis - 1996

#1 Post by BCRenown »

When lacking detailed sources one is forced to envoke the 'Eastwood Dictum' - "adapt, improvise, overcome" - . The result cannot be the epitome of accuracy but even hardtack is better than starving. Drawn purely from photographs, a ship that I've always wanted to draw but can wait no longer - HMCS Annapolis in her 1993 configuration :

Nice drawing! And before anyone else starts shouting about it, the masts should be outlined with black, as should the cranes be.

Very interesting, but yes, I believe that masts and cranes have to be outlined in black (generally, all things that are more than 1-pixel thick). Besides I think that You're using too many colour shades to show rounded shapes of hull and superstructure (etc.), but I'm not going to comment wether it's within or against the rules.

It's very nice, but I believe the hull color tone is too dark. Also, according to my sources, the blue u/w hull should not be that dark, and purplish. Please refer to the my updated Tribal- and Town-classes for the correct shades. Also (and I may be wrong here...) but didn't the Annapolis and Nipigon carry SatComs at the end of their service lives?

These are awesome renditions mate. They were a beautiful vessel in their day and you have encapsulated that in these drawings.

Thanks guys. I've edited my drawing based on your suggestions. I've also redated the drawing to 1993 when no SatComs were shipped. As I alluded to earlier, there are still many details to add and/or to modify.
Keep well and keep drawing,

Great work on the ships, mate. Glad to see more Canadian vessels being completed. In my opinion there aren't enough in the archive.
