Question about USS Jimmy Carter drawing
What the hell is the little minisub on the rear of the sub? It's not a Dry Deck Shelter (DDS), so what is it?
Re: Question about USS Jimmy Carter drawing
I think it's one of those Navy SEAL insertion subs. Not sure though.
โCloseโ only counts with horseshoes, hand grenades, and tactical nuclear weapons.

Does anyone have a drawing of the DDS?
Re: Question about USS Jimmy Carter drawing
DarthPanda drew it and posted it as a separate image on the old board. It's the Advanced Seal Delivery System

Anyway, I can't believe they named a sub after the Peanut Farmer... but whatever.
Re: Question about USS Jimmy Carter drawing
Ostensibly it's because he was a major player in nuclear submarine development - apparently he was a chief engineer on a nuke boat and in a high-up position in the civilian side of the nuclear program, or something like that. I'm sure Wikipedia has a few facts not pulled from random asses.
Re: Question about USS Jimmy Carter drawing
He served on Submarines, and by naming a sub after him, you can't name a carrier after him. And if you make the sub a Spec-Ops sub, then it will never be in the news.
