That looks something like the first ship I ever drew for SB.

Same ship and same reference drawing so it would be strange if it was otherwise (still, i traced her from the reference without touching your work, i can assure you, altough i found the 5/54 parts made by Timothy_C quite useful), you unfortunately bumped into scaling isses if i'm not wrong (she would be around 250-260 meters instead of 281); you plan to contribute or you want to reclaim the intention of working on Montana? that's all i have to know
(as i asked Colosseum about the argument after reading somewhere on the board that he might have planned to do her himself and got green light).

Being a huge fan of American Battleships, I love this. Excellent work so far!

YES
If you draw this ship, the version must be the "1946-1948".
Because, at best, the first ship will be "keel laid down" by mid-1943, hull launched by late 1945 and commissioned by mid/late-1946.
Your drawing must be have:
- twin 76mm replacing quadruple 40mm bofor
- any single 20mm, and only a handfull of twin 20mm
- same radars/sensors used on the Salem/Worcester US cruisers (ships completed around 1948)

For the 1948 radar suit, I suggest you look at my Balder class, it has the radar suit of that era:
