A really slow start for an ambitious goal (AU)

Youbi class destroyer

The Youbi class were the first batch of destroyers built to replace the (AU) Imperial Japanese Navy's aging Northern Destroyer Fleet. The class was designed as a further development the previous Matsu class' with priorities to improve range, speed, and seakeeping capabilities. The design requirements pushed for a larger ship which drastically increased the Youbi class' displacement to 1320 tonnes at standard load compared to the 1100 tonne Matsu class. This was slightly offset by the use of improved turbines which lead to a decrease of only 1.6 knots bringing it to a total of 37.3 knots which was deemed acceptable by the naval board.
