Thanks, I was wondering why the images look smaller not just here but other places as well. I'll set up an account somewhere else and get these images resubmitted. As far as the hull depth, I think I might be drawing a bit much water for the ship's length/beam and displacement...

Having some difficulty here...

I was trying to see if any illumination radars aside from SPG-62 are compatible with the AEGIS weapons' system....I was hoping perhaps to fit the ship with SPY-1 and a stealthier illuminator. Any suggestions?

Nothing until you go to a fully-phased array system.

*writes down notes to redo research on European phased arrays* thank you sir. A bit of grumble this morning that I forgot to save the updates I was working on before the kidlets hit the power button when I was grabbing coffee..

I drew this up to ask if this is practical and if, at all, it would reduce RCS (Which I doubt, but I wanted to ask the more knowledgable folks). I placed an SPG-62 inside a radome. The thought was, from what I read that enclosed masts were stealthier, so I thought why not enclose the SPG-62. This also has the added advantage of protecting the array from salt spray and the storms that tend to pop up in the central/south pacific.

I don't know if it would make it stealthier, but there's nothing preventing you from doing it other than weight and volume restrictions.

I was planning on doing 3 SPG-62s if I used Spy-1, but since the Frigate has only 64 missiles, 2 would probably be okay...might be trading the weight of the 3rd illuminator for two Radomes...not sure if it works out entirely right, because I'm not sure how much the domes would weigh. I can probably take some measurements and find out how much that amount of radar-transparent materiel (GRP?) would weigh.

My best guess from what I've been able to come up with in the last few minutes, for 2 radomes 6mm thick each, just shy of 2 tons. I found an internet source that states the SPG-62 weighs about 4100 pounds, so it might work if my math is correct.

you know that spheres are about the least stealthy shapes possible? note that enclosed masts are mostly flat panneled, and if they are curved (like some search radar covers, for example sea giraffe) at least flat in one direction.

I could go totally Imperial with them and model the domes after the ISD shield domes. those are comprised of a bunch of little hexagonal panels.

or you could go for something like AEMS style? I mean, even domes which are flat panneled are horrible radar reflectors.
flag surfaces and 90 degrees corners are what is the worst for stealth. putting those large domes on would result in about the same RCS as having the original directors.
an good idea how you could work it out if you don't want that, would be the FMLAC
