Top First-Class work there! I enjoy the earlier versions especially much!

Got another message on my message board from the board's resident expert on the class. He reports the hull design near the aft main turret reflects the Furutaka-class, not Aoba-class. However, since the two classes are often grouped together as one four-ship class, I personally don't see the problem.

Moreover, the Aobas where really (at least initially) planned as the third and fourth ships of the Furutaka class, and as far as i know they share the same external dimensions of their near-siblings and their hull is almost identycal; i do not spot differences with the sheer line near the stern between the two ship classes after checking the pictures i'm using as references for them, what distinghuished them (at least particulary before the refits) was the different main guns setup and parts of the superstructure.

Nice looking ships. Japanese cruisers have always stood out to me because of their trunked funnels.
