What kind of abomination is that?
Still a great drawing.

Of course in my never-ending fascination with Luft '46 aircraft and unfeasible outlandish aircraft, I couldn't possibly leave out one of the contenders for worst VTOL aircraft designed:

Probably the strangest of the German VTOL projects, the Triebflügeljäger (literally meaning thrust-wing fighter) was powered by three ramjets on the ends of wing pylons, which would rotate around the body to provide lift similar to a helicopter. And of course, same as the Lerche there was no way for the pilot to actually see behind the aircraft when landing, which was never addressed in the design by the end of the war.

Man, that thing makes the Grumman Nutcracker seem safe and reasonable which is no mean feat.

Man! You are one step ahead of me! Very well done! Which Luft46 aircraft are you planning to do?

Only the He 274/277 and Me 264 right now, though I guess they wouldn't be Luft 46 since they were all actually built and tested.

Very nice additions, especially the Convair.

I can't remember if the French operated the 274 after the war or not. Did they operate them or not?

Yes, the two He 274 prototypes were repaired and used by the French until 1953 for tests involving parasite aircraft and high-altitude research.

Another Soviet oddity, the Korchagin SVVP-70

This design for a jet floatplane was notable for its ability to operate as a VTOL combat jet with additional lift engines, so that on rough water it could operate from shipboard helipads - and on the fact that the retractable floats were inflatable. Unfortunately never constructed.
