Re: German Capital Ship Proposals of The First World War
Its been a while since I last posted a drawing, I've had this almost complete since January so I thought i'd finish him tonight. Hope you like.
GK 4541 Battlecruiser
The GK 4541 project was a 1918 design proposal for a 45,000 ton battlecruiser, armed with eight 42cm (16.5in) SK L/45 guns in four twin turrets, in a superfiring arrangement on the centreline.
Secondary armament consisted of eight 15cm (5.9in) L/45guns in casemates, four 15cm (5.9in) L/45 AA guns in turrets and one torpedo tube in the bow.
The GK 4541 was to have been 240m (787.40ft) long, with a beam of 33.5m (109.9ft) and a draught of 10m (32.8ft). His speed was estimated to be 28.5kts.

Nice work! Those would have been some huge BC's!
@Novice:
The AA guns are next to the barbette of turret c, though hard to make them out at a first glance...

Re: German Capital Ship Proposals of The First World War
Interesting, a somewhat basic and blocky design and not aesthetically pleasing on the eye, but certainly a powerful looking ship. The hull has some serious armour coverage, although I suspect its not that thick. An interesting comparison to Repulse and Hood.

Yeah, I had to look a third or fourth time as well until I finally found them. I wonder how efficient such a placement of the entire AA (around one turret, only aft) would be...maomatic wrote:The AA guns are next to the barbette of turret c, though hard to make them out at a first glance...

About as efficient as most other AA arrangements of the era were?DG_Alpha wrote:I wonder how efficient such a placement of the entire AA (around one turret, only aft) would be...
A very beautiful drawing though! I've discovered a new liking of German WW1-era warships.
