There can be never too much AA.
Even the Midway-class CV do not carry more than 21 quadruple bofors.. for me 31 quads is impratical.
Meanwhile, i have added a measure 22 version for 1945 Montana.

The midway class was a carrier not a battleship and had less space for guns.

but that was build to carry a lot of AA and also build to defend it'self and other ship against other aircraft, the same role Iowa had, and Montana would have to. while a BB is build to carry a lot of different type guns, and if you have to many guns it get crowded and you get top weight issue.

What about a late war South Dakota bridge? Looks more balanced compared to the smaller superstructure with the 1945 Iowa bridge.

Looking great!
Also, no need to credit me for the bridge.

BB1987 wrote:The 1942 version is just the final design of the Montanas, she has 10 quadruple bofors on paper; the speculative/own design 1945 is based on drawings and the same model you posted above, sporting 19 quadruple bofors (just one less than Iowas), i have saw other models ammassing as much as 31 quadruple bofors mounts (31? thats 124 40mm guns!) wich for me is really too much, i think it's possible to add as much as 6 quadruple mounts at best (3 port and 3 starboard, simmetrycal), but no more (two between turret 4 and aircraft catapults, and another 4 by deleting the boats deck, a-la-Iowas).
Yep

BB's, some personnal idea's for the 1947+ version
- twin 76mm location
- maybe replacement of the ageing seaplane by the early newer helicopters around 1948 ? (maybe you can delete the catapult by 1948-1952 !!!)
- for the 20mm mount, you can delete almost all gun, except a very small handfull, ideally 2 or 3 mounts toward forward & 2 or 3 mounts toward aft superstructure (for a full better arc of fire).
