Re: USN Systems
I dont draw with paint.net, I only use it for leveling and scaling... its vector type of line tool is still like trying to use paint-burst instead of pencil, and becouse I have Windovs7, I have degraded back to the old old paint of XP since the vista's paint I have not been able to locate from anywhere.
Re: USN Systems
The main problem with this gun is that it looks too large when overlaid on any of my ships. It's simply "too big"; and yes, as I'm sure you know, "too big" can be by only a pixel in each direction.
As for shading it in the "new way", I've always done it this way and I'm not inclined to change my style when everyone else seems to have adopted their own shading format regardless of whatever rules we have in place. I don't use this shading method on my ships in general so I see no reason to adopt it for a single gun mount.

Re: USN Systems
well I agree. if one part is shaded with one way and the rest of the ship is not, then the overall outcome would not be that clever looking. Then again it goes vice-versa, so using parts without shading in ships that are using shading as technique, the thing just wouldn't look good.
I could pressume and assume and wish that our ranks would be skillfull enough to make their own judgment about the matter, but self-deception is not my virtues
So I suggest you do both versions; one for each style?

Re: USN Systems
I'll post it once I get the ship redone... I've been held up redrawing parts for the last few days.

Just so you know Colo, you can get the exact measurements of the gun here:

Just need to know which Mod it was

Re: USN Systems
A note on the Mk 37 3/70 gun system:
the sheet says that the director used on it is unknown. I've looked at photographs of the ships that used this system (Mistcher, Norfolk, and a converted Gearing) and it looks like it was either SPG-53 (Norfolk) or Mk 56 (others).

Here is the 8"/30 gun I used for the Atlanta. Most of it is hidden behind the barbette, but I tried to get as close as possible to what they looked like.
