a few weeks after the -10 to -50 series, here comes the updated Dc-8-super60s as well. Featuring the DC-8-61, Dc-8-61CF, DC-8-62, DC-8-62CF, Dc-8-62AF, DC-8-63, DC-8-63CF, DC-8-63PF and DC-8-63AF.

More than the version, the main big distinguishing factor between the various planes is the plethora of different door arrangements that douglas offered (it reminded me so much of the 757, which had me ending with a ton of drawings for every model because of that). I initally thought the different door setups were the way to tell apart a standard from a CF (convertible freigher or combi) version, but then I found out that was not the case.
final funny trivia: the DC-8-63PF were a very little bunch of half-a-dozen aircrafts purchased only by Easter Airlines. they had the strengthened cabin floor like the CFs but had no cargo door at all. wierd.

In a few more weeks I should be able to complete the super-70s as well.

Those DC-8s are fabulous. I'm as big a 737 fan as you'll ever find, but it's too bad we don't get the opportunity to fly on a bunch of different airframes anymore. It's been many years since I was on anything but a 737, an A320-series, or a CRJ.

At least in the US you could hop on a 727 or a DC-10 for all the 90's, Italian airlines stopped flying both before I was even born.

Speaking of it, here is something from long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, when Alitalia wasn't a failed airline that goes bankrupt every other day:

This is I-DEMA, the very first Boeing 747 operated by Alitalia. It was delivered to the airline on May 13th 1970 and flew with it until November 4th 1981. Bought back by Boeing and leased to Hawaii Express in 1982 and Flying Tiger Line in 1983 it was then purchased by People Express which operated it until its merger with Continental Airlines in 1987. The plane then went to TWA in 1995/96 but was retired after one year of service. After three years of storage BPI aerospace took over it until 2002 when the airframe was retired for a final time and finally scrapped at Manara, Arizona sometime in late 2002 or early 2003.

Lovely 747 BB1987, but it seems the name on the plane is Lois Armstrong, and in the description you wrote Neil Armstrong?
