December 1917 - Temporary modifications to the fleet are finished. Hulls are repainted, canvas bridges installed, and the capital ships have received the first sets of long-base rangefinders to improve their gunnery skills. These rangefinders will be replaced with better protected kits when they become available. While our destroyers and light cruisers patrol for submarines between here and Gibralter, the battleships and cruisers are attached to the American Navy's battle fleet on the North Atlantic where they patrol with other oil-fired ships of the line.

There exist two way to draw a boat, simple and good or advance and shocking.
You take the simple to a new level of Awesomeness.

I'm with heuhen; this is being a superlative AU, that is well thought out and intelligent. I'm enjoying the gradual evolution of the Republics history.

I must say that the heavy cruiser looks rather smashing. The canvas bridge on it looks a little odd but otherwise wonderful!

Yeah. The canvas bridges haven't turned out quite the way I wanted, but this was the best I could do/find/copy so far.

Great work, Redhorse. I love this thread. Can't wait to see the Republic develop its air forces and more ships.

Re: the canvas issue. I don't think it'd look so odd if there was more contrast between dark and light tones there, if the darker of the two shades was somewhat darker It'd look much less odd, at least IMHO.

I've played with Campeche's canvas covered bridge this morning. The posted image automatically adjusted, so tell me what you think. In the meantime, here's another update on the Army and the Western Front:
I often wish I had the skills and time to run a website for the Republic of Texas. I'd be able to post so much more than this. At current count, I have 937MB of material that I've built up over the years I've been doing it.

This keeps getting better! I love the write-ups you've been creating - they add an element of realism and authenticity to an already outstanding AU
(And I think the new canvas bridge is much improved over the original)
