To be honest, I wouldn't bother with the twin medium guns, waste of deck space for something escorts can do just ass if not better. Also the cut-outs of the flight deck could be remedied by putting the AA guns of a "balcony" just under the deck, as what you have now looks like a British carrier

Well, honestly speaking he is working on the actual plans I believe, so the shape of the flight deck is correct:

The main issue, instead, is that those machine guns top views are not of the 40mm bofors quad, but they are the Japanese 25mm machine guns twin mount kitbashed to four barrels.

I know, i just thought the 40s took up too much space for my taste,
I took the 25 mm and added one gun to resemble a quad 28 mm Chicago Pianos

Essex and her ilk would beg to differ, for what it's worth.

Whether or not it's something one would choose to add, it's certainly justifiable.

Ah, on a check you are right though I can't see the benefit of having them.

CVBBDD, something you should keep in mind is that Tzoli(the author of the drawing you were inspired by) made that drawing based on the idea of taking the Armoured Cruiser Asama(commissioned in 1899), and converting her to an escort vessel armed with four 8" guns and eighteen 3,9" AA guns. The idea wasn't building a new vessel with those specifications, it was to try and make use of an aged hull with no place in a modern(relatively speaking) navy in her older condition useful for modern use(in this case, make her an escort vessel). He did this mostly for discussions sake, and the concept was shot down relatively fast, if I remember correctly.

And that, Ace, is why it appears so blocky. CVBBDD based his design, and its hull of an Armoured Cruiser, not a treaty-era cruiser.
