These frigate was designed by a Naval shipyard during a contest for building a naval ship for a country. There was designed three standard design some they offered to several country. They was designed as Optimality as a ASW escort but on of the version was designed with better ASuW capacity then they tho other. Extra hull size compared to frigate with same mission task like the Oslo class, was going to better the ship speed and crew comfort but also to the ship endurance with the increased magazine and food/fuel capacity.
The design was sold to several country, where this ship was used from the flagship of a Navy to fleet escort. some of them was designed in to a submarine hunter/killer fleet.
