Re: Federal Republic of Denton
It looks off Ethan.
The funnel is too far back, above the propeller shafts, which indicates the non-existance of an engine room. You would do better if you replaced positions between th efunnel and aft conning tower.
If indeed you have based the design on that concept of North Carolina, just remember there was a reason why the design was not proceeded with.

Re: Federal Republic of Denton
Thechnically Novice, there is nothing wrong with Ezgo's layout. The boiler rooms are positioned aft of the engine rooms, just like on the Nelson class Battleships. The concept designs for the NC linked by him just above the drawing shows a similar layout, thus that design do work fine.Novice wrote:It looks off Ethan.

Re: Federal Republic of Denton
Thanks guys!
@Novice, BB1987 is correct. The boilers are positioned aft of the engines rooms and the engine rooms are located under the boats area and the main structure. It's a different design, and not one pursued often, which is precisely why I went with it. While I will agree that it would 'work' better with the funnel and aft tower swapped, I think it would just lose it's appeal. The design is flawed in some ways, but that's just what makes it interesting.

Re: Federal Republic of Denton
Updated first page:
-Added Outer Island and South Pacific Territory map
-Changed Britain to Salide and modified history accordingly, as well as demographics.
-Added BB-3 Concord and BB-6 Paerau. Innsbruck and Saarbrucken have now been changed to BB-2 and BB-1, with St. Catherine keeping a designation of BM-1. Now, Saarbrucken is the first 'true' battleship of Denton.
-Created Templates for LCU-83 and Saale class hovercraft (which should have been done when I drew them)
-And finally, I have changed all hull colors to red, as well as removed all black waterlines, creating a better visual transition between the above water hull, the boot-topping, and the underwater hull.
No projects for Denton at the moment, but Salide will receive some attention in the upcoming week.

Re: Federal Republic of Denton
Sorry, double post.
It's been several years since I drew the Fort Albany Class battleship and the casemates have never been very attractive, as well as the superstructure. So finally, I decided to try again, using the New York class battleship to change the design and make the Fort Albany and New York class look more like sister ships (which they are).
So, here is the old Fort Albany Class:

And the new Fort Albany and Lock Haven along with a new SS report:

DNS Lock Haven, Denton Dreadnought laid down 1911
Displacement:
24,031 t light; 25,515 t standard; 27,033 t normal; 28,247 t full load

565.50 ft / 565.50 ft x 95.25 ft x 27.75 ft (normal load)
172.36 m / 172.36 m x 29.03 m x 8.46 m

Re: Federal Republic of Denton
looks nice I have a few questions ?
- Why the 5" above the 3" ? (near bridge)
-
- Why the 5" above the 3" ? (near bridge)
-
Should it be longer ?Main Belt covers 82 % of normal length
Main belt does not fully cover magazines and engineering spaces
Re: Federal Republic of Denton
Ahh, fixed. I overlooked that part.
I'm not sure why they had the 5" gun where it is, but it mirrors that of BB-34 and 35, so that's why I did it.

Re: Federal Republic of Denton
Space. There isn't enough space between the deck edge and the superstructure to fit the rather long 5"/51 on the maindeck, but there's enough to fit the much smaller 3"/50 gun.ezgo394 wrote:I'm not sure why they had the 5" gun where it is, but it mirrors that of BB-34 and 35, so that's why I did it.
Have you sketched out a topview? It doesn't look like you have room for the 5" gun on the upper deck, but I might be wrong. The superstructure on the New York was triangular which was what made it possible, whereas yours looks rectangular.

Re: Federal Republic of Denton
Makes sense now.
I think I'll have to play with it a little more. Probably the best thing for me to do is move that 5" forward a little more and that should give me the room I need.
Edit: Moved the 5" gun forward a bit. I think it should have room now.

Re: Federal Republic of Denton
I suddenly had a shot of inspiration. I'm struggling to decide how I want to design my armored vehicles, and the MBT is no exception. After some deep thought and lots of flipping between tank pages, I came up with a design and here it is.

The Lion/Löwe is Denton's Main battle tank. Design work started in the early 1960s and the first units came off the production line in 1969. Several key requirements dictated the design, which included easy repair, cost effectiveness, modularity, and the use of the 120mm rifled gun, which was also being developed to fire ATGMs.
Several key things to know:
-The engine is located in the front, adding additional frontal protection, as well as making the chassis adaptable to many other roles. Front Sprocket drive.
-The turret is a design similar to that of the M60A2 Starship, but has a more sloped side.
-The gunner sits to the right, the commander in the center, and the loader to the left. The driver is located on the left side, next to the engine. All crew members have a hatch.
-There is a door in the rear of the hull. Ammunition racks are standard, however, these can be removed and the tank can be used for command and control, minimum troop transport, or medevac.
Some of these design features inspired the design and creation of the Israeli Merkava, which was built 10 years later.
There are three marks, built over the course of 40 years.
MkI - 1969-1974
MkII - 1977-1987
MkIII - 1998-2011
Each mark has significant improvements from the last, but all retain the same basic chassis and components. The engine was uprated from 930hp to 1200hp to 1500hp in the MkIII. It's still a subject of debate whether or not to start design of a new tank or continue updating the Lion to a MkIV.
Specs, MkI:
Width: 12'1"
Length, Hull: 25'10"
Height: 8'8"
Weight: 63 short tons
Main Gun: 120mm Rifled gun, able to fire laser guided ATGMs.
Secondary Armament: 2 .30 Cal MG (1x coaxial, 1x commander's hatch), 1x 60mm mortar for smoke, HE and illumination rounds (on later MkIs).
Engine: 980 to 1500hp V12 liquid cooled diesel engine
Suspension: Helical Spring
Range: 320 miles
Max Speed: 30mph
MkII and III, as well as other variants (anti-air, engineering, bridge-laying, recovery, and an APC concept) will follow.
