Aorund 1998/2002 Caledonia started planning a new larger Guided Missile Cruiser to replace HMoCS Caledonia Guided Missile Battle Cruiser. Instead of building one large ship, Caledonia want to build 4 smaller with Possibility to build 5 more at a later date. The biggest changes are that they are going to get a much better radar than the HMoCS Caledonia had. on arms side the biggest change is: stealth missiles and stealth guns. They will be nuclear powered but thanks to new technology they will manage to get a higher speed capacity.

After a lot of projects, chosen CX1663 proposal with a different radar types.

The radar was selected was a combination of AB-tec's dxc574 medium range radar and an extreme long range radar of the Globe series

dxc574 is a 3D radar, which is a medium range, but it can control several missiles at a time. While the radar in the Globe series has an extremely long range, it can control a limited small number of missiles because the radar is of two parts. but the weakness is that she always has a blind side if she is to control a missile where one part of the radar will focus only in one direction and thus the radar's range and the area it covers is less.

These cruisers class was named Knight class. Caledonia ordered 5 of them and have opportunities to ordering 4 more.

These cruisers had a relatively high speed capacity. and thanks to new technology they could automate much of the ship and thus have a smaller crew.
