I originally had the idea that this class of ship would primarily be geared towards ASW targets and SSM targets, since in the region I "play" in, those are the only real threats, plus, AAW can be left to frigates. (unless I'm mistaken) Would it be a good idea then?

then it would be at least doable. give the ship an ESSM like missile and use the director on top instead of the satcom (drawn on the NL parts sheet)
the only comment I have left then is that this really seems frigate sized as well..... which is not an problem IMO. the I-mast 500 is a bit small in range for an destroyer anyway :P

Here's the updater version, which is elongated, some of the ship is reshuffled around, and I replaced the mess I had earlier with the I-MAST 500 system.

PS: I feel there's something wrong with the structure a-mid-ships, and I'll have a go at that next...

remove the SMART-L. those systems cannot work together. and one VLS battery is more then enough, apart from the fact that the aft one won't fit over there ;)

S1850M which is a derivative of SMART-L. What ace means however is that iMast isn't compatible with it. iMast is to an extent all inclusive.

Okidoki, removed the SMART-L from the ship, as well as the aft VLS system. Seems rather naked now though...

Welcome to the world of Western ship design. Anyway, there's still lots of things to add.
Liferafts, boats, firefighting gear, liferings, an HMG or two, searchlights etc.
“Close” only counts with horseshoes, hand grenades, and tactical nuclear weapons.
That which does not kill me has made a grave tactical error
