10% of all VLS tubes would be two and a half of these ships - with a full run of 75 Burkes (at 62 now, but for now we also have Ticos) that's 7200 VLS cells.

That said, this is HII trying to keep the LPD-17 hull production line open as long as they can - not that I blame them.

Well that solves my question on how they would shape the superstructure for the sensor arrays. I would do 4 57mm guns for self defense and just drop the pretense that a ship with a 2 billion dollar radar will be used to provide gun fire support.

Edit oops never mind I guess thats the future rail gun (which explains why it was so weirdly proportioned to the rest of the ship.)

Im honestly more interested in the OPC.

Does the powerplant of the LPD 17 need to be upgraded to increase the speed from 22 knots to 30 knots in the BMD concept so that it can be part of a Carrier Strike Group (CSG)?

It would have to be, but they say it can be done.

Upgraded, yes. I don't think they intend for this hull to do 30 knots however.

According to ex-Secretary of the Navy John Lehman, the BMD ship is tied to a specific region and cannot be deployed with a Carrier Strike Group (CSG).

I think that would be preferable.
