Washington State Ferries
A long-term project I've been meaning to get around to for some time now, and finally got going on, the Washington State Ferry system. The ferry system, operated by the Washington Department of Transportation, currently has 23 ferries in 9 different classes. I'm going to try an do one from each class, plus the Pierce County ferries Christine Anderson and Steilacoom II. If I can find any decent info/pics, I'd also like to do the Lummi Island ferry Whatcom Chief operated by Whatcom County.
Thye first, still a WIP, is the Jumbo Mark II class, represented by MV Puyallup (for those of you not from Washington, it is pronounced Pew-AL-lup. Residents sometimes humorously refer to it as Pooeyloop) Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any sources for the underwater hull, so if any of y'all may have some images, or know of where I can find them ...
Anyhow, first up, MV Puyallup. Again, not quite done yet, but I wanted to go ahead and post (mostly hoping somebody has info on the underwater hull. ) All the ferries are double enders, so I'm not quite certain which is the bow end and which is the stern end, as they tend to be nearly identical. On this one, just need to finish up the masts, add some antennas, and get the central funnel area done.

Nice one, Zephyr. Good to see more ferries on the site. I'll be keeping my eye on this one
The good thing about these ships is you only have to draw half of it and then just copy and flip!

Very nice drawing. Looking forward to see the finished version!
Re: Washington State Ferries
Well, it's not that easy as there are a few differences, but yeah, pretty much.Charybdis wrote:Nice one, Zephyr. Good to see more ferries on the site. I'll be keeping my eye on this one

Re: Washington State Ferries
Very nice, I think I rode one of those when I was very young... we have a Christmas tree ornament of a ferry that my mom calls the "Vancouver ferry". Wondering if it's the same thing.
Re: Washington State Ferries
The WSF does run a ferry service from Anacortis through the San Juan Islands and on over to Sydney on Vancouver Island. It may be what shes talking about. The only other ferries that run from Washington to BC run from Port Angeles to Victoria (also on Vancouver Island), but those are private ferries and not run by the state and look much different.
My Grandparents lived in the San Juans, so I've ridden the ferries many many times, including a few trips over to Vancouver Island (where on one trip I found out the drinking age was lower than Washington, and that the pub near the ferry landing had 25 cent schooners of Molsons on tap )

Re: Washington State Ferries
I hear it all the time from my brother who lives in Graham. It must be folks who don't live in Puyallup who call it that.
EDIT: And thanks for the links!
