Re: Sword Class FFG (Warning: 3D)
We're either just arguing semantics or just arguing for the sake of arguing.
Yes its a nuclear reactor, but its not a S8G or something like that.
If Visby isnt in the ASW business someone should tell her, because she has a ton of ASW stuff onboard.
The CONOPS for this vessel is diffrent from typical Navy doctrine, I'll go into that concept when I post some more pics. Blue water ASW isnt as big a concern as Brwon water for this class of ship. Probably only mentioning its escort duty was probably misleading. This ship is taking he place of LCS. Combat in the littorals is the primary mission.
Alot of it was inspired by this quote from the Princess Bride ... "You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia"

like what? you can do it by pm, but I'd really like to know what I say wrong according to you.Lebroba wrote:I know english isnt your first language so I'm not going to slam you on some of the things you said, but you should read a little closer before posting some stuff.
we are not arguing, we are criticizing your design so it gets better.Lebroba wrote:We're either just arguing semantics or just arguing for the sake of arguing.
Lebroba wrote:So to clear up some things, the ship wasnt going to have a nuclear reactor it was going to have an LWNP driving permanent magnet synchronous motors. You can read more about LWNP here.
great to be linked to my own thread. note that every single LWNP ship on the bucket is created by me, so you are refering me to know more about my own knowledge?
also, why go electrical?
Lebroba wrote:Yes its a nuclear reactor, but its not a S8G or something like that.
no it is not. but it is an nuclear reactor, which gives you near unlimited operational range and way less refueling ops for an smaller usefull displacement. so, what, apart the scale, makes the LWNP that much different from the S8G or other models?
37'' as in less then 1 meter? and then it is the same size as the Mk 45?Lebroba wrote:The gun was about 37" to short. Im fixing it. I just recently got a decent drawing of a mod 4 gun. And while SB scale is good for what it does, its not as accurate as 3D. 2 ft is the smallest unit in SB scale right? I can model down to 1/1000th the width a human hair.
also, I was not talking about how accurate it was. I said it was good for measuring systems against each other, not that it was good for perfect accuracy.
okLebroba wrote:I'm gonan try moving the SLQ-32 antenas outward a bit. The people in the EW module made fun of me for having a mod 3 instead of a mod 2 so I changed that also.
ok then, but I still think this is wasted space. it is not like this ship will ever go alone against more then 2 other ships. if 4 missiles per ship can't damage it, 8 won't either.Lebroba wrote:I think 16 ASMs is the right number for how this class of ship would be used. My ship just took part in a sinkex against the EX-Corinado and I think the decision is a good one.
Lebroba wrote:About the bow thrusters, I think Visby has them, and she is super stealthy right?
oceangoing ASW, with long range sonar and ASROC and helicopters is completely something else then coastal ASW, with mines, depth charges and similar stuff. the long range ASW weapon of the visby are torpedo tubes, are the short range weapons of about every frigate.Lebroba wrote:If Visby isnt in the ASW business someone should tell her, because she has a ton of ASW stuff onboard.
note that the noise is important for your maximum sonar speed. you need to be able to keep up with your battlegroup while your sonar still works, when you go less then 18 knots and the sound of an opening in the hull obscures the sonar, well, yeah... you'd be an sitting duck. and that is exactly what this bow thruster does.
then, in what, is this ship better than some littoral combat ships? they still need long range cover, and escaping from them as submarine, aircraft or surface simple: just get out of range.Lebroba wrote:The CONOPS for this vessel is diffrent from typical Navy doctrine, I'll go into that concept when I post some more pics. np, and can't waitLebroba wrote:I have some time tonite to do some more renders, so I'll post some diffrent angles later on.

Re: Sword Class FFG (Warning: 3D)
Here is a picture for the concept of operations for such a vessel. This scenario revolves around 3 objectives, 1. controlling sea lines of communication, 2. harbor control, and 3 landing amphibious forces ashore. Based on the tiered defense strategy, this tiered attack would rely on a carrier furthest out from the shore conducting air strikes and enforcing a no-fly zone. They would be responsible for sorties into the country to damage key military infrastructure. The tier 2 attackers (DDGs and SSN/SSGNs) would be responsible for Naval Gun Fire Support and cruise missile strikes to further weaken military infrastructure. Also they would deal with any anti-ship cruise missiles or anything that escaped the third tier. The third tier is closest to shore, they would be in the greatest amount of danger and would be responsible for clearing mines, enaging coastal patrol craft, defeating subs in the littorals, as well as larger surface combatants that are trying to penetrate to tier 2 and tier 1 zones.

What kind of gun is that, 76mm or 127mm? Is it based off the AGS?

Re: Sword Class FFG (Warning: 3D)
I still see no drawing which I can judge the hull shape from.
also, that gun looks small for an 76 (mostly in width) so don't expect this to work for 127
also, your tier 3 looks like 'playing target' to me, as they don't do anything tier 2 can do, let alone that tier 1 does not cover. and if they cannot operate without the other tiers, they are an waste of money IMO.
and, are you going to adress the points I made above?

I really dont know how to do SB scale so probably no time soon. I've looked at the tutorials and stuff. Working in pixels seems really difficult to me. Props to those who can do it and do it well.jabba wrote:Any plans to draw in SB scale?
