Huh.
Well, why can't you do the same level of detail as you did with that to your "freeform" work?

I guess I don't take the freeform as seriously...and with the Odessa I was drawing it from a plan.

Also I just realised what you meant about the director structure...the box forward of the 5-4 director? That was intended as an auxiliary radio shack (main radio is just aft of the bridge).
Also I do believe she might have a touch too much freeboard. As far as details go, I erred on the conservative side, not wanting to "overdo" it

Still not sure what other details to add...I feel odd about adding details just to have them, without having a purpose to them.

the proof that you don't have to use 'newstandard' shading or overly details to get an non-plain looking ship.
also, add railings, cable guides, anchor chains, anchor locks, steampipes, airpipes, pipes in general, mast strengtening, stairs, an corrected period crane, pipes, aerials, and if you want it really good looking, an underwater hull. you seem to have the 'parts' covered (weapons, searchlights, directors) so the design process is done, now you have the actual drawing

I ask of you to prove me wrong. Not say I am wrong, but prove it, because then I will have learned something new.

I figured railings, I wanted to save that for the last step. I'm about to head to work, so I'll start working on the further details tomorrow.

Just for clarification on a few of your points, ace...
Uhhh (I feel like an idjit for asking) but how do I draw an anchor chain? I actually haven't done one. Also stairs (or ladders as the USN calls them...I actually thought I had an excessive number of them on there..used the sets off the "equipment" parts sheet.

I mean stairs against the walls. look at the iowa, it has an fair number of them.... making it possible to go from deck to deck on almost every possible position.
the anchor chain: a line (of if your really want to go pixelbashing, you can go with an drawn chain in different shades of grey) from the anchor winch to the deck just above the anchor lock.
