As for retractable undercarriage inside the floats, I'm not aware of anything like that. Perhaps it just was beaching gear?

CAC CA-25 Winjeel:

Used by the RAAF as a basic trainer between 1955 and 1977, and as a FAC training aircraft with 76 Squadron until 1994.
