Re: British carriers 50-85.
I was not sure about the flag myself so I thought I would wing it until someone come up with the right one. Thanks mate. The badge was just too good not to use on a drawing.
Re: British carriers 50-85.
Nice one mate,So if I have this right The Canadian red ensign goes on the jackstaff and the normal white ensign stays on the stern ?
Re: British carriers 50-85.
Bombhead,
I am better at history of flags than traditions of the RCN. On the photos I have been able to find, the Red Ensign is on the jackstaff, the white ensign at the stern and no flag on the main mast.

Bombhead,
based on this photo, the maple leaf should be higher on the smokestack.

Re: British carriers 50-85.
The Red Ensign was not flown by navy vessels. Only the White Ensign. In 1965 the RCN started using the Canadian Maple-leaf flag as an ensign.
A very good drawing BH.

Normally I would agree that the red ensign was used only for merchant ships, but look at this photo of HMCS Warrior.http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/7060/hmcswarrior.jpg
Re: British carriers 50-85.
Well that looks pretty conclusive to me.
Re: British carriers 50-85.
In the UK, the red ensign was, and still is, the merchant ensign only. In Canada, prior to the Maple Leaf flag, the red ensign was the national flag along with being the merchant ensign, so its use on naval vessels would be quite appropriate.
