Emergency Auxillery Ships

#1 Post by MC Spoilt B'stard »

Just some small already drawn ships , converted in to Auxillery role ships. More will follow later

Image

The two ships were the Koningin Beatrix (1993) & Prins Johan Friso (1997) were the two ferry's who sailed between Breskens & Vlissingen (NL) untill 2004 they were sold to a Italian company.

So the idea was: The Kosovo war did become worse so NATO started a ground war aswell, due to the lack of transport the Johan Friso was converted into a transport Ro-Pax vessel & the Beatrix was converted into a Hospital ship.

Watching this with great interest. STUFT and auxiliaries are very interesting things to look at.

Fascinating concept - you never would consider a double-ended ferry as a combat unit.

A modern MAC... a most interesting and unusual concept.
Nice simple missile armament- would make a nasty surprise to happen upon while patrolling.

I have to say I can't follow your logic. First of all, Kosovo is completely landlocked.
Secondly, why go all the way to the Netherlands for two low capacity ferries when the Adriatic is positively adrift in ferries?
Thirdly, why convert them at all? These transports wouldn't have been sent in until all opposing naval and air units have been taken care of so there's no need to fit weapons on board. Additionally, there's several major hospitals within 30min flight from Kosovo, so there's little need for a hospital ship.
“Close” only counts with horseshoes, hand grenades, and tactical nuclear weapons.
That which does not kill me has made a grave tactical error
