Situation in Ukraine

#1 Post by Aloysius »

Haven't seen anyone else break the news anywhere, so I may as well. For those not aware, apparently Russia is invading Ukraine. This promises to be interesting...
Thoughts and prayers for the Ukrainian people, hopefully this won't get too ugly... fingers crossed.

Also it should probably go without saying, be prepared for a tidal wave of misinformation and propaganda from both sides.

This is very concerning. Hopefully sense prevails between NATO and President Putin and discussions are still possible. Cuban crisis #2?

God, I hope not. All things going well (other than the ruble), it might just fizzle out in a month or two. If not, oh boy.

The main reason we do not speak about it, here in the forum, is that we do not talk/discuss politics in Shipbucket, it always ends dirty!

Anyway, I feel sorry for Ukraine and not for Russia. More than that, I am not going to say!

War is bad :( . Like Heuhen said here in SB we don't discuss about these matters because they almost always end up in bitter arguing and internet-fights between members. There are plenty of other venues where each can express their sympathies and discuss about the war and other current situations. This may sound harsh and cold but the purpose of Shipbucket forum is to discuss about shipbucket stuff.

Currently in Kyiv. Overslept the air raid alert and woke up only after all returned from air raid shelter.
About navy: nothing known about Odessa naval base, but it seems military storehouses were hit by SS-N-27 Sizzler ("Kalibr") cruise missiles. Also it is said that Ochakov naval base is on fire.
Several minutes ago one russian helicopter (some say a plane) was shot down and fell directly into Dnipro river.
