- I thought about doing the swiss K31 carabine (I also own a K31 and the K11 of my grand-father and the SIG P210 of my father and my army pistol, a SIG P220). But I am not shure, if I will do anymore smallarms, because already the SG550 was so much work.
- I am satisfied with the caliber. But initially in the early 1980's the swiss army wanted to adopt instead of 5,56mm a 6,45mm caliber.

I'm really surprised they adopted the 5.56... since the Swiss military basically relies around thousands of snipers shooting at you from the mountains, I personally think the use of 5.56 might be an oversight... the 7.5mm GP11 round was perfect for long range sniping.

Just my $0.02. I could be wrong... but from what I've read the use of 5.56 makes no sense.

Well, what are the odds of a military conflict in Switzerland? And what are the odds that Swiss soldiers will fight alongside NATO members (who use the 5.56) somewhere in the Middle East or wherever? Also consider ammo supply and logistics and here is the answer to your question.
Generally, what gets adopted by any military is not what's best but rather what's easiest (cheapest) to deal with. It's not always the case but it can explain many "stupid" things.

The control word was "wherever" :D
Anyway, being located in the middle of Europe it would be not very smart to adopt a unique caliber for their military. IMO.
