@esubwe
Rather sad that such a well respected senior artist can post such a tirade towards a junior member Sorry if it wasn't the case, but came across as very petulant.
For some background, I am only interested in modeling aircraft I have some connection with, and with several years of instructing on various piston and turbine DC-3 models, they are very much "in my blood". If somebody else wants to have another go at something I have done, and can do better at it, hats off to them.
So at midnight last night I couldn't sleep, so got up and decided to work on the BEA dart engine DC3's. While cleaning up the piston engine, I suddenly thought of the XCG-17, referenced a few photos, and made her. To be honest I didn't look to see if anyone else had already made her, I just did it to fill in a couple of empty hours in the middle of the night.
If I had seen that you had already painted the aircraft I would still have painted her. As I (as has everyone else here) been critiqued for style, there are some noticeable issues with your XCG-17 which I hope will be rectified in your next iteration:
- ensure tailwheel isn't so square (I was just pinged on that last week )
- ensure tie-down ring behind tailwheel is painted as per background (not shadow)
- ensure both long-line radio antennae are included
- ensure hemispheric engine-ballast is located at the correct spot, not as far forward as your original
- ensure wind-powered generator is mounted on the engine ballast pod
- ensure correct USAAF markings are applied
- rework cockpit windows for better accuracy
- ensure upper fuselage air vents are included at forward and rear of cabin

@Sheepster
Bravo! That's the way to respond to the grumpy t**ts like me.
Seriously.
Yeah, well, if it makes You feel better, then I want to repeat my already announced intent to "retire" from drawing FD stuff after I'll have the Polish Wings and it's related "by-products" (of which Dakotas are the part) finished.
As for the XCG-17...
1) Tailwheel... that 4-year old drawing had it (like most of the plane, actually) taken directly from the Caddaric's original.
http://www.shipbucket.com/forums/viewto ... 609#p61609
2) Tie-down ring - not sure what You mean, but if we're talking about the same part, then I'd say it looks sufficiently "solid" and/or thick to me to warrant using shade
http://www.fotothing.com/photos/36b/36b ... 20ef19.jpg
3) Long-line radio antennae - while this photo shows both of them:
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii12 ... g~original
this one doesn't seem to show any:
http://www.airwar.ru/image/idop/glider/ ... cg17-1.jpg
or at best shows just one (the one attached lower to the vertical stabilizer) and it suggest it was attached on the fuselage forward (and to the left) of the astronavigation cupola.
On the other hand, this photo:
http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii12 ... g~original
shows again two antennae, which raises the question if their configuration remained always the same.
Alternatively, it goes down to the quality of sources, namely the one I used as the main reference.
4) Engine-ballast - true, that few available side drawings seem to have problems with proper location.
5) Wind-powered generator - same problem as with antennae, but true that it rather should be there.
6) Markings - arguably the picture I used seems to suggest there were red stripes on the markings, but indeed it's somewhat doubtful; on the other hand, I'd argue about size of the digits on the vertical stabilizer.
7) Cockpit windows - oh yeah, now they are very much reworked. And actually... it applies to Your windows as well, perhaps even more.
8) Air Vents - I know about them.
Btw. - to the bottom-right of the markings there was a part of equipment (not sure what actually is that) - omission we both made - me 4 years ago, You currently, and the pitot's tube (or whatever it is) below the cockpit clearly seems on all photographs to be extending downward.
So, have lots of fun with further drawings. :>

everyone can open new thread, only admin/mods can lock a thread
Re: FD scale Aircrafts 13
Very nice additions Caddaric.
There is a tiny bit of red alignment line left on the top C-54 label.
Anyone can open a new thread, just open one called FD Scale Aircraft 14 and we're in business.
