They might have been technically useless but that just makes them more believable and I still like the desperation in the nice story line.

The same people were also planning to fight tanks with spears.
But do explain to me how a submarine that has to surface for an extended period of time within 40km of its target in order to launch its weapons are going to be useful against an enemy who has AEW. APS-20 was in full deployment in 1946.

“Close” only counts with horseshoes, hand grenades, and tactical nuclear weapons.
