I followed the previous Ukranian AU and this. Both are too extreme indeed, but wonderful as work. All ships of Rurik-2 are masterpieces as drawings.

While I can't speak for Rurik-2, I guess that the most logical answer would be "because it's fun" (and that fun results in large number of excellent artworks in this thread and several others before).
