Thanks for the info,
Yes bigger Sydney new dock would make sense, personally (for my AU) I would like a alt to Singapore (and a more realistic defensive strategy) and Sydney is a bit far south to cover operations to the north in DEI/Malaya.

But Sydney dock makes more sense commercially so may have to go with that.

Definitely Perth, because west is best!

Actually I'd agree with the others that Sydney would be the most likely and sensible option, especially in this time frame. I'm enjoying this thread though :)

Question on layout of the ship, is there a possibility of using up that massive amount of area between the bow and first turret? It may not be beamy enough, but damn, its just so friggin empty looking. Maybe if the beam allows it you could fit another triple 8in forward or maybe for a late war refit, cram the front with anti air guns. Just an idea, cus wow, that long stretch really spoiles the looks of the rest of the ship.

Trouble is ships that service in Aus-NZ waters should be fitted with larger berths in order to mitigate the summer heat and also to provide a little more comfort for the long voyages that would be expected. Besides, the original hull is similar in proportions.

Since this was a conversion plan (rather than new build) it needs to put the new Barbettes in the same place as the old ones (or at least close) and the hull has not been changed apart from lengthening the belt a tiny bit.

Gotcha gotcha. Probably could fill that area with massive amounts of AA though. Could be nice later as a carrier escort if it has a huge amount of AA power.

It might get loads of AA later but pre war and intending to fight anywhere (such as in big waves) I don't see much AA being put on the bow.

IMO 3x 8x 2pdr(40mm) isn't bad for a pre war (pre 37) AA fit.
