Re: Thiaria: Other People's ships
master of AU once again delivers!

Re: Thiaria: Other People's ships
Hi JSB,
I think the key phrase there is "based on the Michigan class" - those were the USN's last all-VTE class of battleships.

Adam

Re: Thiaria: Other People's ships
I agree. And turbines in BB's were still new and still somewhat untried (Dreadnought had only been around for about a year when this design was drawn up) . I can see the USN sticking with the tried-and-true VTE's, even though that will prove to be a mistake...apdsmith wrote:Hi JSB,

Another amazing AU design and the camo scheme takes this to a new level of awesomeness!
As usual this just looks so perfect as to be real.

Hi elft177,
Also, one point I should have added above - early direct-drive turbines were not a panacea and suffered from their own problems, particularly with regards to fuel consumption - at cruising speeds, turbine fuel consumption is worse than VTE, at least until geared turbine sets become available.

Adam

Not to mention that they couldn't reverse
