Re: Grays Harbor Designs
Yeah, it looks a bit odd to me too, but on this one I was loosely following the cancelled USS Oklahoma Class of Armored Cruisers from 1914. They were to have had a similar layout.

Re: Grays Harbor Designs
Actually, if you look at my WWI American battleships, especially the Florida and Wyoming classes you will see what type of bridge is depicted on the Oklahoma, which is fictional I might add.
Re: Grays Harbor Designs
Fictional? I thought it was a design exercise that was never carried out because AC's were becoming obsolete. Hnh. Ah well. So now I've got a fictional ship based on a fictional ship. Kinda appropriate in a way. lol
As for the bridge form, I have it that way as a progression from my previous Ajax class, to try and give them a "family" feel.

Re: Grays Harbor Designs
The ships on that website is marked as OD or NW. If I remember correctly that one is OD. Yep, just checked it, own design
Re: Grays Harbor Designs
ok. But for my purposes that is neither here nor there, honestly. I try for at least a little bit unique and not just clones of RW US and RN. True, I use them for inspiration, but I don't want carbon copies. I don't even remember what website it was from, I just found it last year when I was looking for images of the USS Washington (Seattle) and USS Tennessee (Memphis).

A little bit more on the Orion.
Also, as comments seem to have stopped on the Gargoyle Class CV, I guess it is pretty much finished.

Re: Grays Harbor Designs
Nice looking design. I'd be somewhat tempted to raise at least the fore funnel and aftmost funnels to keep smoke clear from your observation points. As it is the aft point is useless as smoke will be obscuring it whenever the boilers trunked to that funnel are operational.

Re: Grays Harbor Designs
What about just extending the pole mast? On second glance it does look a little squat.
And, i also just noticed ... unless i do something about the stern below the waterline, lighting the boilers will be pretty much a moot point anyhow.

Re: Grays Harbor Designs
Looks excellent and a really nice design.
I only have a couple of tiny nitpicks, I'm not entirely sure on the tubular masts for this period (vibration problems etc.) and the searchlights are mounted too high for topweight concerns and they would be better lower down, perhaps where the spotting tops are now. The masts seem too tall in that respect, perhaps swap the searchlights and spotting tops and lower the masts and increase the top yards to compensate. They'll look less stubby then.
