Re: Battleship the movie

Well, not to be outdone, the SyFy channel was advertising a movie "American Warships" - a low budget "Battleship" movie for this weekend.
I guess everybody is into having the USN kick alien butt....

Re: NATO ASW Design Challenge

Since my entry was accidentally deleted due to it being an attachment, here is the Revised and correctly credited Kendrick class FFG: http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b32/Donovan_NightHunter/FFG-3JohnKendrickclass.png This design is a bit confusing You have the Mack structure associated with a ...

Re: Kriegsmarine 1946, second approach

The 3" guns were deck mounts - no below deck penetration
They generally had 2 ammunition lockers at the rear of the deck gun shield. (which you don't show, except in the aftermost mounts)
After they were used ammo had to be passed up from the lower deck magazines

Re: Emergency Auxillery Ships

Fascinating concept - you never would consider a double-ended ferry as a combat unit.

Re: Kriegsmarine 1946, second approach

I agree that it would be nice to have the other navies (at least European ones) included in the AH. What kind of ships would Italy have?
Would the German's have converted/rebuilt any French designs?
I like this thread. It is nice to see this kind of AH carried out though many years.

Re: Kriegsmarine 1946, second approach

I like. In one of the older versions of Breyer's Battleships & Battlecruisers there was a drawing of a conversion of the Scharnhorst class, with all the 5.9" & 4.1" guns removed. They were replaced by 11 twin 12.8cm DP mounts. The space where the single 5.9" mounts were had light Flak guns (probably ...

Re: SPRUANCE Class Radical Reconstruction

With a design like that I doubt that there would be room for an ASROC magazine located forward of the launcher (the magazine on the FF's I served on were a fairly large) The Sea Sparrow launcher is in a precaious position. It would be very vulnerable to being struck by a helicopter landing/taking ...

Re: M-frigate development

I was looking around in the archive, and I found this ship... http://www.shipbucket.com/Never%20Built%20Designs/Netherlands/FF%20(M)%20Light%20Frigate%201.gif anybody has any intel about it, as it seems to have some major flaws (most notably, all CIWS arnament up front and the lack of directors) so ...
