Re: Modernized Mark 7 gun
What do you guys think the feasibility of placing the 16 inch shells in an automated ready magazine in place of the projectile ring? Instead of manually being moved from the ring to the hoist the projectiles are loaded into a revolving magazine that surrounds the central column and rotates to feed ...

Re: Modernized Mark 7 gun
Its not so much upgrading the Mark 7 off the Iowa's because ya, those suckers are as good as they can be. The idea is more what would a 16" inch gun be like if designed today. Things like crew reduction, removing the turret officers booth, etc. Admittedly I don't expect to see much changes, but I'm ...

Modernized Mark 7 gun
So I just got done watching an older documentary about US naval guns that ended talking about the 8 inch Mark 71 and its development from the 8 inch Mark 16. As I was watching that I had a sudden thought. What if my favorite naval gun, the glorious 16 inch Mark 7, got the same treatment? Admittedly ...

Re: CG-45 Avalon-class Cruiser
So I went a little nuts today trying to fix the superstructure today and I ended up going with the nuclear option and just wiped out everything above the main deck. I then went back to basics and using a combination of pictures (try three windows each with 20+ images) and a few shipbucket creations ...

Re: CG-45 Avalon-class Cruiser
snip * So played around with it for a little bit and I got to say I like it. Here's what I did in a minutes, I will have to redo some of the angles but I should be able to not only cut out two decks but I should be able to shorten the length a bit. https://i.imgur.com/Lleetpm.png two questions for ...

Re: CG-45 Avalon-class Cruiser
snip Too tall-try shaving off a deck Ditch the lower level of the superstructure (have the rear arm launch missile system on the main deck), make the landing pad level with the forward missile platform Maybe eliminate the top deck of the bit between the forward and aft superstructure, have a single ...

Re: CG-45 Avalon-class Cruiser
So work is coming along nicely, don't have a new image yet but I'm getting close to getting the details done for the side-view. Quick question, does any one now of any good examples of ships with top down views?
