Re: RAN acquires Damen vessel for aviation training
Time to reactivate this thread. Check out the drawing and pictures on this page. Her name is Sycamore after the first helos operated by the RAN. Not HMAS and no guns. http://www.adf-messageboard.com.au/invboard/index.php?showtopic=2520 http://www.adf-messageboard.com.au/invboard/uploads/post-7 ...

Re: British subs:
This is a good reference for British submarines from the beginning to just before WW2.

Beautiful work on the Aussie destroyers. But it looks like poor old Tasmania is forgotten again.

Re: Rodondo's ketch
Point of Order - I thought a Ketch was two-masted with a mainmast taller than her mizzen. Am I out of date with my definition or is this actually a sloop of some sort?
I gotta' say I love the vessel tho'.
Edit: She might be a Cutter.

So you found the picture of Gannet and Commissioner on the State Library of Victoria site? (Ref: H2012.262/9) ...or RAN Heritage Gallery Ref: 00602_Commissioner

Like.
You've taken this from the picture of Gannet and Commissioner together haven't you?
I have another picture from the RAN's Heritage Gallery showing her with a light bridge structure and a different colour scheme.

Try the National Archives of Australia Record Search (www.naa.gov.au)
For some 'As fitted' drawings of HMAS SYDNEY I search for ITEMS in Series MP551/1 Control Symbol 73/*
If you look through MP551/1 you'll find a lot of other gems.
