Re: The Iowa Fireworks Family - The Gunless Iowa
NavyGuy658 This is what I'm working on for a silo conversion. It uses 6-50hp motors (controlled by VFD drives) with 24" overhead crane type wheels (railroad) and 6 idler wheels. These wheels would run on 4 rails to clear the barbett. A power track would supply power to mobile armored cover which at ...

Re: Proposed Rebuild For the Leonardo da Vinci
None of the plans would come to fruition as any plans were killed by the Washington naval treaty. Love the drawing but this part is questionable as she was listed as a kept ship so could have been rebuilt is it not more just money needed to do it? (any rebuild in any configuration could presumably ...

Re: Sprinklez's Random Projects Dump
Very nice gunboat, my only thoughts are if you could raise the stern 5" up a deck to clear the stern for ASW/mining or fit 4 guns? I would then have the 1.1" AA guns moved to beside the funnel? I would anyway move the .5MGs (especially the rear 4 guns) as they need sky arcs to be useful AA as at ...

Re: AU questions for Salide and others
Thanks for the map makes it much easier to think about. I think you will get a very much larger port in the far north west of Ireland as this is the closest unless politics makes a link with GB more important? What port would be probably Sliago or Castlebar or later a new terminal as far NW as ...

Re: AU questions for Salide and others
... A second question, there are several long distance ferry routes that connect Salide with Scotland and Ireland. The shortest of these are 360km and the longest is 545km, giving a transit time with a superfast ferry (30kts) at 7h30m up to 10h15m. Would these long distance ferries be considered a ...

Re: USS Montana (BB-67) ca. 1988 Missile Augmentation
Nice, but would the MK41 work so constricted by the funnels and masts? Could you not ditch some of the 5" guns and reduce crew & weight as well to give you plenty of space for the Mk41s say beside the rear funnel (then put the harpoons in the gap?)? Potentially also remove some 5" forward for more ...
