Re: Has anyone done a 5 stack liner
Both pictures are from Damned by Destiny. The 5-funnel design was Norddeutscher Lloyd from 1902. The 6-funnel design was from 1900 and was just an idea for "the liner of the future" with no specific line, though it was based on the Hapag Deutschland. I'm curious, does Damned by Destiny say anything ...

Re: Portuguese seaplane carrier
Wow! This is one interesting ship. I'd read that Portugal was planning on building a seaplane carrier, but never that it had an entire plan to modernize its navy. Mind posting some details about it here?

Re: Spanish Republican Navy
Agreed :) And at the moment we are celebrating the life of George Orwell; so a lot of good stuff on BBC radio; just finished Homage to Catalonia, which makes it clear how Stalin sabotaged the Republican front by getting the communists to turn on the other parties. So not so suprising that Franco ...

Re: Oversized Battleships Redux.
Looks alot like an American attempt to build a counterweight to the Kirov-class (or perhaps their successors). Great job! I can't wait to see how this turns out!

Re: Spanish Republican Navy
Um, I'm not sure I agree with you that Franco ever seriously contemplated joining the Axis powers as a fighting ally; notwithstanding the Spanish 'volunteers' on the Eastern Front. My reading of Franco is that he was quite cunning in playing off the the two sides, as evidenced by the very expensive ...

Re: Spanish Republican Navy
That would have worked if the jelly fish that were running GB and France had spine transplants. At that stage both Italy and Germany were 'all mouth and trousers' as we say Up North (by eck!). Neither of the totalitarian states could or would have stood up to the Anglo French alliance if they'd ...

It almost looks Italian (gasp!). A very nice ship. Keep up the good work.

Re: Spanish Republican Navy
Another possibility could be that the Civil War is averted, but that Spain gets invaded by Germany during the Second World War. After the war, Spain receives aid from the Marshall Plan and eventually joins NATO.

Re: Ottoman battleship Abdul Kadir
I was unaware that the Ottomans were trying to build their own battleships (as opposed to buying them from foreign yards), but I guess you learn something new every day.
