Personally I like the first version. Whats the point of escorting a carrier with it? Isnt its job best achieved elsewhere? I would be more inclined to keep the two turrets forward and shrink the aft flat deck.

Rifled guns are more stable at long range than smooth bore, however, for the same amount of propellant etc, smooth bores have a higher muzzle velocity. Trajectory or curve, are dependent on velocity, drag, weight, aerodynamics, sectional density........ Rifled guns can only fire APFSDS and HEAT ...

I figured if your firing guided munitions then you don't want to spin them, plus iirc it also means higher muzzle velocity.

Back to guns https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/92662532/CL-144%203.png 4 twin 6"/70 smooth bores firing proximity, homing and guided shells. The mounts have the dual feed reduced to single feed only with several ready rounds each per gun. Secondary is 4 twin 3"/60 and tertiary 4 twin 30mm. Fred

They are from a new AU. The intention is to escort to far flung trade partners, all weapons shipments are to be escorted. No smaller units are expected to engaged in escorting.
