Re: Grays Harbor Designs
An interesting design, unfortunately its biggest problem is the torpedos themselves and the speed of the ship. The natural target of this ship is other cruisers and above. This means the smallest guns it is likely to be facing are 6", most of which fired around 23-28,000 yards. With the standard 21 ...

Re: Cenetian Carrier
I think your hangar from hull to bottom of flight deck is too low - I count 27 pixels = 13.5 ft. Brit ships are from 15-17ft, US ships have 17-20 ft for hangar height. The actual size of the hangar looks like it would contain about 20-24 aircraft and that might be less from the placement of the ...

Re: Grays Harbor Designs
It was the Washington Treaty in that other timeline that gave that 10 year gap between the end of the conversions (Glorious) and the completion of Ark Royal in 1938. That 10 year gap can be filled by a number of carriers being built in Zephyrs AU with new innovations being incorporated in each ...

Re: Grays Harbor Designs
Harpy is a fine drawing - you were just trying to get to much out of the design and not allowing for the time it was built. For the new ship(s) Washington Treaty (if it exists) was 23,000 tons for carriers. If no WT then something in the order of 25-30,000 tons will be a big enough ship to play with ...

Re: Kingdom of Grays Harbor
Actually the Hermes is bigger in size than the Harpy 614x64 (39296) H= 600x70 (42000). Hermes is designed as a carrier yours is a converted Saturn type cruiser. The Saturn is 11,767 tons Harpy 16,605, thats over 40% increase in weight and you expect your ship to still make 33 knots, and then you ...

Re: Kingdom of Grays Harbor
Sorry but the Harpy needs a rethink, too fast for size/weight/hull coefficient (bulges may stop it rolling over but they will knock a lot off your speed). Too many people - overcrowded. Too many aircraft - not enough room (14-18 might be better). Too much weight for hull (overstress). To get the ...

Re: Kriegsmarine 1946, second approach
The only Imperial German Navy vessel equipped with diesel was the SMS Prinzregent Luitpold, and she was at best a qualified success, being a 20 knot vessel. I'm surprised that this is not know by people who profess to be knowledgeable of the German navy... From Wiki on Kaiser class battleships ...

Re: Kriegsmarine 1946, second approach
From Wiki On Sachsen, a MAN diesel engine producing 12,000 ihp was installed on the center shaft, while steam turbines powered the outboard shafts. The combined power plant would have produced 42,000 shp (31,000 kW) for a designed speed of 22.5 knots. (from 1917?) For Konig. It was originally ...

Re: Kriegsmarine 1946, second approach
This is an AU, you can do what you like. What sort of treaty obligations is Germany under from 1919 onwards, when does the next German Govt throw away the treaty. Use some imagination - what would the ship look like with 9x13.8 in 3x3 layout? Unless you have really good (and I mean REALLY good) fire ...
